Summer School: Remote Sensing for Polar Scientists
The UK Polar Network, in partnership with the National Center for Earth Observation, and the Earth Observation technology cluster, are proud to present a 3 day summer school aimed at early doctoral students working in Polar or cryospheric remote sensing. We aim to introduce a variety of new techniques to those at the beginning of their academic career.
We are delighted to announce that the Keynote Speeches will be delivered by Paul Hardaker, Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society, and Stephen Briggs, Head of Science, Applications & Future Technologies Department, European Space Agency.
Sessions will include a mixture of lectures and practical sessions. We will kick off with a session on remote sensing of the Poles, including the Cryosat mission, led by Seymour Laxon (Centre for Polar Observation & Modelling, University College London) & Andy Shepherd (University of Leeds). On day two we will be looking first at the integration of earth observation & modelling, led by Mel Sandells & Debbie Clifford (University of Reading) & Nick Rutter (University of Northumbria), followed by a session on Lidar remote sensing led by Pauline Miller & Matthias Kunz (Newcastle University). We continue with a demonstration from Chris Stewart of the European Space Agency of ESA’s image processing toolboxes. Also included in the summer school are opportunities for participants to share their own science with the rest of the group through a poster session, and with a wider audience through an online year book at http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/eotechcluster/community/ukpn-yearbook.aspx.
